Artecology, Golf Tees and the magnificent work of the Coral Centre. oh, and an Inexplicable nod to the great Daisy May Cooper!

Nige usually likes to keep his new ideas under is hat for a while. Sometimes he forgets they’re there though and needs Ian to remind him!

Strike three!

Three CoralPod™️ domes successfully struck from their moulds...phew!!! That’s 300, 400 & 500mm diam concrete cast domes. Next week we go for the big 650mm dome🤞. CoralPod™️ is a collaboration R&D project with The Coral Centre and Artecology looking at Coral Propagation, Coral Restoration and complex artificial reef habitat and refugia.

taking on the coral crisis from the solent

No the photo here doesn’t show the start of Nige building a one man submarine! The transparent dome is however the first step towards Artecology working on a coral propagation and restoration project with new project partners, Hampshire based, ‘The Coral Centre’. Nige says “I think it’s brilliant that two Solent based small business are working on such a globally important subject.”

You might ask what has coral got to do with the Solent? To many the plight of the world’s coral reefs might seem far enough away to be someone else’s problem, but, did you know that the United Kingdom is the planet’s 12th largest coral reef nation? As well as Great Britain’s own remarkable cold water coral reefs, UK overseas territories are home to more vitally important coral habitat than the USA and even Malaysia!

"Many coral reefs are under the ownership of the world's wealthiest nations. Between them, Australia, France, the UK and the USA account for over one quarter of the world's coral reefs - a critical resource in powerful hands," says Mark Spalding, lead author of UNEP’s ‘World Atlas of Coral Reefs’.

Cue our next project called CoralPod™️, water tank tests at Coral Centre HQ start soon!

There’s more on our CoralPod™️ collaboration with The Coral Centre in our previous post, and we’ll be updating you with project progress as it happens……
